Sukuh Temple

 

Sukuh Temple is a Hindu complex of the religious temple that was located in the Karanganyar Regency. This temple was categorized as the Hindu Temple because of the discovery of the object of the worship lingga and yoni. This temple was classed controversial because of its form that was more unusual and because of the number of objects lingga and yoni that symbolized sexuality.

 
Sukuh Temple has distance about 20 km to the east of the Karanganyar City. The only one temple that was erotic and Unique in Indonesia. Sukuh “Erotic” Hindus Temple which was built on 1437AD some years after Majapahit Kingdom collapsed (the temple has a trapezium shape with similar shape as the Inca temple in Mexico, South America).
Sukuh Temple building gave the simplicity impression that striking to the tourist. The impression that was obtained from this temple really different from other big temples in Central Java that is the Borobudur Temple and the Prambanan Temple. Moreover the form of the Sukuh Temple building tended to resemble the legacy of the Maya Culture in Mexico or the legacy of the Inca Culture in Peru.

 
Apart from the main temple and turtle statues, garuda and other reliefs, also was found several animal statues have the shape of celeng (the wild boar) and the elephant. In ancient the nobles and the nobility using elephant for transportation.
Also had the building horse reliefed paste with two human nooses inside, on the side thought and right that came face to face to one another. There were those who believed that this relief symbolized the uterus of a woman and the left-hand noose symbolized the crime and the right-hand noose symbolized the goodness. However this was not yet so clear.

 
Afterwards had a small building in front of the main temple that was acknowledged as Pewara Temple. In its middle, this building was hollow and was gotten the small statue without the head. This statue by several circles still shined because often given by the ritual offering.
